Remember which vacuum bags fit your vacuum

Vacuum bags are sold by a code nobody memorises, and the code has nothing to do with the name of your vacuum

A model number you have never once said out loud

Your vacuum is "the grey Bosch". The bags it takes are Type G, or GXXL, or a number printed on a sticker under the machine that you have never read.

The last bag in the packet gets used at the worst possible moment, and by then the packet is in the bin along with the code on the side of it.

This is the cheapest possible thing to write down and one of the most annoying to get wrong, because the wrong bag simply does not clip in.

The four things worth recording

  • The full model number of the machine, from the sticker on the base
  • The bag code, exactly as printed on the packet
  • The HEPA or motor filter code, which is a separate part with a separate schedule
  • A photo of the old packet, so a code you mistyped is still recoverable

Two minutes with the vacuum, once

  1. Turn it on its sideThe full model number is on a sticker on the base, not on the front where the brand name is.
  2. Open the bag compartmentThe bag type is usually printed inside the lid, and always on the bag itself.
  3. Photograph bothAttach them to the card. From then on you are ordering from a photo rather than a memory.

Also worth a card, same idea

  • Robot vacuum brushes and side brushes, sold per model
  • Steam mop pads, which vary by plate shape
  • Coffee machine descaling cartridges
  • Extractor hood carbon filters
  • Air purifier pre-filters, often ordered separately from the main one

Questions people ask

What if I mistype the code?

That is exactly why the photo matters. A code with three letters and six digits is easy to get wrong, and the photo of the packet settles it.

Can I add how many are left?

Yes, keep a count on the card and update it when you change one, or add the bags to the shopping list when you open the last packet.

Bagless vacuum, is this pointless?

No, the filters still have codes. A bagless machine usually has two, a motor filter and a HEPA, and both are model specific.

Save it once. Find it whenever you need it.
